• Hi, I’m new to all of this – be gentle haha πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I had a WP.com blog before I set up a WP install on my own domain name. I wanted to import my posts via RSS – after a little while of messing around with “the file could not be uploaded to .” error messages when choosing an RSS file to import (changed permissions on the server) it seemed to import my posts fine when it said “All done – have fun!”. Only none of my imported posts show up – indeed, if I import *any* RSS file, it keeps saying “all done, have fun!” but nothing ever shows up on my blog.

    Import posts from:
    [w] fontpusher.wordpress.com
    to:
    [w] fontpusher.co.uk/blog

Does anyone have any idea as to what’s going on, or how to fix it? Incidentally, I’m using Safari on Mac OS X; if I want to save the RSS feed from my WP.com blog, I need to right-click on the ‘Entires RSS’ link at the bottom of the screen and click ‘Save to desktop’; the resulting file is an HTML file – would this have any effect?

Apologies for the long post – but if any of you lovely people could offer any help, that’d be great πŸ™‚

  • The same thing happens to me, how do you do this?

    anyone?

does the rss need to be formated a certain way, the xml i am trying to import is in rss 2.0 format, which from what i understand is what it needs to be.

    any help is appreciated.

A lot has changed in 9 months.

WordPress.com now exports a “WXR” formatted xml file.
Wordpress 2.1.x versions can import that. It is NOT the same as an RSS import.

    Thank you.

now to find what an WXR formatted file looks like.
Im not importing form any specific blog software. I (my client) has a simple db table of post-like items: title, content, category name, and author. No comments.

i can dump these into an xml file. is there a sample out there you can point me to.

Ah. You joined a thread discussing importing from WordPress.COM. I just assumed…
