   I use a custom CMS.

   Is it possible to import thousands of pages from this custom CMS into a new WP platform?

   I'm sure that it is, but you will need to make some kind of converter or importer.

   Take a look at the Importing Content page in the Codex. You will see that a lot of other CMSes have scripts to import their content, you could probably use one of those as a starting point.

   In some cases, it may be easier to import your content into another CMS on this list that is more similar to your CMS, and then import the content from there to WordPress.
