We had a WordPress blog hosted on our website, and it worked fine.

Then we switched to a different hosting server, and the only way that we could get the blog up and running again was to basically start over from scratch.

Which I did, and the basic blog seems to work fine. We used our old saved database SQL file that had our prior posts/comments in it, and imported that via phpMyAdmin in CPanel. Our prior posts loaded back in fine, and show the number of comments that people replied to each one, but when you go to click to see the comments, you get a 404 error.

From the status bar it shows that the links to the comments are pointing to places in the blog that no longer exist (ie: saying that one is from “general/hello-world” in the blog directory on our server, but there is no such animal any more).

Also, when you click on the link to actually comment on any of the posts, old or the new one that we just put up today, you get a 404 error as well.

Not quite sure how to fix this. Please be patient with me; I’m a complete newbie to all this blog/coding/database stuff, and have pretty much been learning as I go, and not even sure I’m asking the correct questions, but whatever anyone can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

The URL to the blog, if that will help, is: http://www.carolinacustomvideo.com/blog

    Thank you.

  • I’d first try renaming your .htaccess file and updating your permalinks via Administration > Settings > Permalinks

    Thanks for the quick response.

Those terms (.htaccess file and permalinks) are pretty much greek to me at this point, but then, prior to Monday, so was most of the other stuff I’ve been working on this week, so not surprising.

I’ll do like I did for everything else this week; look them up and try to make sense of it, and then just jump in, tinker, and hope I don’t break anything. 🙂

AFTER I back up the blog again.

    Just in case.

    Thanks!

It WORKED! And was a piece of cake to do, probably the easiest thing I’ve done with the blog all week. 🙂

    Thank you for the help!
