    I exported a word press site. Then, I imported it into my computer. I installed wordpress and everything was up and running before the import. The import of the .xml file succeeded. However, the site does not look anything like the original site did. I also selected to download file attachments for the download. I expected the site to show up exactly like the other one did. Am I missing something?

    Did you copy the theme files from the original site to your local installation?

    No, I did not copy theme files. I will be up front. I am new to wordpress. I have designed web pages, so I am not new to that. But, I did not know I had to copy the theme files. Do I also need to copy the images and other miscellaneous files?

    Where can I find the theme files? Can I export those also?

    @toolmania1,
    Yes, themes files are necessary for your site to look the same.
    Just download your theme files as a whole using ftp and put them into the themes folder in your local WP and activate that theme and you should be good to go.

    I hope that you can maybe help me. I have designed a site and need to move it to a new hosting server but wanted to do a practice run. I copied everything to the new folder on the server and the home page shows the correct theme. My problem is the following. On the dashboard my posts and pages are there (the info is there) but when I view a post I get the default hello world page.

    What am I doing wrong?

    @yvcgirl,

    I am not sure exactly what's wrong with your site, is it the look( theme) or the content( posts aren't there)?

    Can you please, explain more.
