After upgrading to WP 2.0 and the latest version of K2, I was unable to create an archives page because of a problem with my database. It simply would not generate an archives page when I called it. I talked through the process with many people and even had someone check out the problem by handing over my username and password and checking things via ftp. They made it work by hacking it but that was not a long term solution.

I have initialized a new database (which resolved the problem) and want to import the posts from the old database to the new database at the old location. Has anyone ever done this? Is there support for importing a wordpress database into another wordpress database? I’ve not found anything in a couple of hours of searching.

I do not have the old database connected to a blog at the moment.

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

There really is no easy way to export/import posts only. Why don’t you tell us about your archives page problem and whether or not you can re-produce it under the Default Theme? We may be able to provide a more long-term solution for you, or at least point you in the right direction.

Wow, basically Archives works with every theme but K2 at this stage. I can manually create an archives page no problem but when I select “Create archives page” in the K2 theme for some reason it will not generate the page. So without hacking the page it will not show up.

It makes me believe that there is an archives page in the database that is preventing the creation of a new one. Having a functional new installation tells me that there isn’t a server problem, its something to do with that old database.

The old blog and database is set up at http://www.rustyhinges.com/wordpress/

From what I gather the only way to reproduce it is to use the K2 theme as it has a unique way of creating the archives page, unlike the manual generation of archives pages with other themes (ex. the original Kubrick).

    Thanks

In that case, please submit your support request to the K2 Support Forums.

Yep, which I’ve done twice with no answer 😉

    Thank you for your time.

K2 is more of a modification than a theme. We have no experience with its code, so we really can’t help you here, sorry.
