Im logged in as an admin, have installed and activated the wordpress importer plugin - but the import option is not showing up as an option below tools. Is there a hack or a way I can activate/display this option?

Try deleting and then re-installing the plugin.

Is there anywhere I can check in the code?
Have you considered upgrading WordPress first?
