    Dear OpaJaap,

is it possible to write some of the EXIF / IPTC entries into your database fields?

During the upload I would like to get the fields “TAGS” and “FOTONAME” from my pictures set automatically.

„Default photo tags“ should be 2#025
    „Fotoname:“ should be 2#120

I tried to fill the wppa-Tags 2#025 and 2#120 in the photo album but this is not “translated” like it is done with the description field.

Actually during import the Fotoname is set identically to the filename. I would like to get the caption (2#120) instead. As I can use the filename anyway it would be great to use the caption instead.

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards
    Peter

This will be considered for a future version.

Default photo tags is for the entire album, so you can easily set that manually and use Apply default tags to set them into the photo records.

My pictures do have the “tags” in your database-field 2#025. Therefore I need a way to tell wppa where the tags can be found. As each picture as valid information somebody might search for, I can neither use the album nor set them manually (again).

I thought I can somehow use the database-fields to show up at the proper place. The way it is it does not help for tagging and search for tags. Which field do you use for the tag?

    If you add something like:

    This photo has labels 2#205

in the photo description, it will show up and, even more usefull, you can search for it ( using the Search photos widget ).

The problem in automating this is the fact that there is hardly any consistency in iptc tags and their meaning. It depends on the photo manipulation program which tags are used. 2#005 is also frequently used for photo name. The meaning of 2#025 was unknown to me so far.

Is there a list of database-Tags (like 2#205) from which field they come from? I could try to find the matching fields in my software and use them instead. I used the standard fields from Aperture (Mac-Software). I used the description field already to change EACH of my pictures fotoname manually, but this is quite a lot of work to do. So either I skip the fotoname and only use the description or I have to do it manually.

The Foto Tags are too much work to do manually so I will skip the usage of the tag cloud and think of the description box as well.

Would it be possible in a future release to parameterize the used fields for the import? I could think of the fotoname and fototag field getting matched through your database-codes (i.e. 2#120 and 2#025).

    Thank you!

I have been thinking a lot about your wishes. This i can promise you:

    1. Version 5.2.8 ( planned for jan 10 2014 ) will have a selection box On Tbale IX-B11 ( in stead of the checkbox ‘remove file-extension’ ) that enables you to specify the strategy to determine the default photoname.
I have the following choices ( already running on a test site ):
Filename, Filename without extension, IPTC Tag 2#005 (Graphic name), IPTC Tag 2#120 (Caption).
If no iptc data is available, the filename will be used.
So, that topic is resolved next friday. ( If you want, i can mail you the php files that are changed with respect to the current version, to test it ).

    2. The idea to have the possibility to enter iptc or exif tags on the photo tag fields, that should be translated into real data. is not so bad afterall. I will try to implement that as well before next friday, but i can not promise at the moment that it will be ready by then.

    Great News!!
As I did all the work for renaming manually for now I will give it a test run as soon as you finished the plugin.

Thank you for your great work!

Yes, it will be released next friday. Especially entering 2#025 in the albums default tags and then applying default tags is amazing!

Both issues fixed in 5.2.8, due jan 10 2014.

    Hi Opajaap,

Thanks for your plugin, it is great !
With IPTC tags translated into photo tags would be soooooo amazing. Do you have implement this function as you said above ? I tried but it doesn’t work apparently.

    Thanks a lot !

    Jibo.

Yes, and it works. You need to upload photos when iptc is enabled! ( Table II-B17 ) to save the iptc data. After that, enter the iptc tag ( e.g. 2#025 ) in the photo tags field and reload the page ( ctrl+f5 ) or put it in the albums default tags field and append or apply default tags on the album info edit screen.

If you saved the sourcefiles ( Table IX-H1 and 2 ) Remake photofiles will also recuperate iptc data if II-B7 is on.

    Oh okay !

After that, enter the iptc tag ( e.g. 2#025 ) in the photo tags field

It was my missing part. You’re my lord, thanks !
