import not working

    I am trying to import my old wordpress.com blog, and as soon as I reach the “download and attach media”, the next thing I see is this:

    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists.
    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists.
    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists.
    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists.
    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists.
    Media “???????????????????????????????” already exists

    It basically freezes. WHY can’t I even import my blog!

    Hi rafiquaisrael,

    I have never known the import export tool to work properly. Having said that go to you phpMyAdmin in your server control panel and export the database. If you are not sure what this is please ask your server hosting tech support to export the database for you.

    Are you moving the site from an old domain name to a new domain name? Make sure both the new site and the old site are both running the same version of WordPress.

    Only do this if your new WordPress website is empty and nothing has been added in terms of posts or pages :-

    Then import this database to your new site but you will need to go into phpMyAdmin and edit the Site URL and WordPress Address URL if the the old domain name and the new domain name is different. If you are not sure you can ask your hosting tech support to edit the database.

    But before you do anything backup both the databases and all the files so if anything goes wrong you can restore the back up and try again.
