My apologies if this topic has been dealt with, I can’t seem to find it if it has.

I’d like to move from a current social networking program with which I am extremely frustrated (VERY high maintenance levels) and use WPS. However, to do so would require the importing of all current user data.

Not being a programmer or anyone remotely capable of being considered “knowledgeable” about such things, how would I migrate my current members’ information into a new install of WPS without losing all of them??

    Thanks.

You are in luck! Wps uses the info that is in the wp users data therefore you lose no users they are all there as long as they are members of your site. They may need to fill in some info on the Profile page but again they are there already.

Enjoy and have a very Happy Holiday!

It sounds great, unfortunately I’m not using WP for the social networking part of my site. I’m using Oxwall. How would I import the membership data from that into WPS?

That again if you can import them in to WP that is all you need to do as once again WPS uses WP user data.

Would that be the htaccess files??

Would that be the htaccess files??

No not at all. If you can export your user base from the other place and then import it to Wp for that you will have to find a plugin htaccess is not involved. Other than that I cannot help with this.
    FYI
What ever they will have to sign up on your WordPress site anyway to be a member there to access WPS

My current membership would have to rejoin to use WPS?

No, they just have to be a member of your WordPress WebSite, nothing more. Then they have access to WPS. WPS is nothing but a WP plugin working off WP.

Ok, I don’t think you understand. I already have a membership. I’m using Oxwall – a Facebook clone – as a social networking platform. Not liking it, at all.

I want to change to WP and WPS but, I don’t know how to move my current members’ information and accounts from Oxwall to a new installation of WP or if that’s even possible. If it IS possible what files do I need to make it work so that I can have them using Symposium right away?

Ok, you will have to export from there (Oxwall) and import top WP. How I cannot tell you as I do not know anything about what your using. I sorry but I am of no help to you for this, wish I could but cannot.

You have been a tremendous help. Do you happen to know anyone who may know the details of making such a move?

It’s ok. Thank you for your assistance though. It is greatly appreciated.
