[resolved] Images won't upload to Media Library (17 posts)

I'm trying to add images to the Media Library, however every time I upload an image, I'm faced with the broken image icon in the preview.

It's very odd, I've been able to upload up until yesterday and I've even resized the pictures down to 5kb, but still no joy.

I'm tearing my hair out, if anyone can help I'll be eternally grateful!

    Thanks.

Check your uploads path in Settings -> Media. Have you checked with your hosts to see if you have reached your hosting account limits?

Uploads just save to the default - I haven't changed anything there.
I haven't uploaded too much to the site, however I'll check the account limits and let you know!

    Thanks :)

I've just checked, I get 10GB of hosting space - do you know how I can check how much I've used?

Sorry, I'm new at this and still trying to figure it all out!

    Ask your hosts.

Right, checked the hosting and have only used just under 5GB so not that.
    Any other suggestions?

    I'm completely baffled...

Have you checked to see if the images are being uploaded to the correct folder using FTP?

Yes, a couple of the images are there when I look at the uploads folder using ftp. They're just not showing in the media gallery.

Then it's definitely an uploads path issue. What path is entered in Settings -> Media?

It's blank - I'm just using the default.

It could possibly be a permissions issue. Have you tried to view one of these images directly via (what should be) their url?

Yes, they don't show up. Not sure if it has any bearing, but it starts a new subdirectory in the uploads folder for each month. It's only started doing it in the June folder - folders permissions are all the same.

Can you post an example image url?

Check out the error message on the image url page. It's the images themselves that are the problem.

The image [...] cannot be displayed because it contains errors.

Bizarre. They're just straight jpegs that I'm uploading.
Perhaps I'll change the format and retry.

I think I saw earlier someone had a problem uploading jpegs.

Try re-saving the images (optimised for web use) in a graphics application.
