When I try to upload any image to the Media Library to insert into a post I get a broken image icon. All my previously loaded images are fine. This has only occurred since the upgrade to 3.7.1 It was otherwise working.
I have tried deactivating all plugins which has not worked. And changed themes.
Not a wizz so wasn't sure how to do some of the other stuff that was suggested.

I am meant to be uploading images daily and have no means of adding them to the site. Is there any way I can remove the 3.7.1 changes????
    Cheers
    Weny

Kmessinger - I have done all of these except the last which is to upgrade again as the only available update zip that I can find is 3.7.1 again rather than reverting back to 3.7 as I suggest - is this possible?

I have downloaded the zip file, but see that others are having this problem too which seems like it is not isolated incident?

Please describe what happens? Can you upload to a post with either uploaded?
Right click on the broken icon and look at properties. This is where the image is disposed to be.

So when in a post i go to Add Media. Choose a file to upload. It will go through the upload process but displays with a icon for broken image. If I select and insert it into the post then it does not display the image.

In terms of properties - I cannot find anywhere that will allow me to right click and give me the properties. (not sure if this is what you were looking for the code [caption id="attachment_741" align="alignleft" width="150"]<img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-741" alt="Jim's Legs at Cabo Finisterre" src="http://www.derrygoround.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Jim-Leg-@-Cabo-Finisterre-150x150.jpg" width="150" height="150" /> Jim's Legs at Cabo Finisterre[/caption]

If I go into the Media library itself I can select Edit and I can see the image there but this is the only place.

Please ask more questions if I haven't explained properly.

    http://www.derrygoround.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Jim-Leg-@-Cabo-Finisterre-150x150.jpg link shows Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Jim-Leg-@-Cabo-Finisterre-150x150.jpg on this server.

Check the permissions. All the folders are supposed to be 755 and files should be 644.

Dumb question where do I check the permissions?

Why would the location of these have changed from previous image uploads.

I check them by logging into my host and using the file manager. Something like that with your host should work.

H'mm I have no idea about logging into the host as I was just given an admin password to ensure posts were uploaded daily! Then this 'broke'. Ek! (Think I am way out of my depth!)

But it does not matter which file that I upload still the same problem. So is this a bug that has come from the latest update? (or who knows?)

Why would the location of these have changed from previous image uploads.

Were storing them somewhere different? Check settings>media>Store uploads in this folder. Should be wp-content/uploads

Doesn't have the option to choose the folder (copy of the page below. I haven't physically changed the settings unless the 3.7.1 has changed them.

Yes that is good. Can you point me to a link with a broken image. On your site all the images seem to be there.

Same error. You need access to your hosted account or use ftp to check/change permissions. If you don't have the log in information for the host you will have to contact who does.

I don't think you can go back without the above either. 3.7 would be here, http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

I just had the same/similar/related problem. I skipped 3.7 and updated to 3.7.1 directly. Image uploads were broken due to wrong permissions (0600).

It seems that WP 3.7 still chooses to inherit file permissions from the permissions of the directory (BTW, I strongly disagree with this approach).

My WP is set to upload into wp-content/uploads/YYYY/MM, that's .../2013/11 for now. Yesterday, directory "11" was freshly created with permisssions 0700 even though "2013" is 0755. Hence, all uploads ended up as 0600 and were unreadable on the web. Changing permissions of "11" to 0755 fixed it for new uploads.

However, it seems there's once again a bug in handling permissions :/

I'm getting the same problem as wewie and schamane. I tried all the suggestions in the list.

I get the same error as schamane above. Any image uploaded after the 3.7.1 update doesn't appear in the WordPress dashboard (only after clicking the image in Media Library and then Edit Image can I see the image.

I tried changing the permissions as schamane suggested and that worked, though I'm concerned about the safety of this.

My website is http://www.willbeck.com/ and the test post is from after the update.

@Willartist: By setting permissions of directory "11" to 0755 you make it world-readable. That's relatively safe because basically you want the uploads to be readable.

However, it might make the directory index/listing and otherwise "hidden" (unpublished) uploads visible, too. On your blog that is the case, see http://www.willbeck.com/artblog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/ but it is also the case for older directories.

To disable directory indices see e.g. http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/DirectoryListings or simply create an empty file index.htm(l) in the directory.

    Thanks very much shamane.
I have hidden the files as you suggested.

I suspect I am being supremely thick, but I can't see where to post a new topic. Please don't shout!

I seem to be experiencing the same issues as the folk above, and having read the thread above... well to state that I am confused would be an understatement.

http://www.uk-va.com/logo-branding-design-draft/ this is the post with non-working images.

Any and all help greatly appreciated
