[resolved] Images upload fine but are broken and wont display (24 posts)

I have a multi site that was working fine. I added a new site to the network and the mapped a domain. Now when I upload an image it uploads to the server just fine but the images appear broken.

All older images still work fine and if I skip WordPress and go directly to the image they still appear broken.

All the server folders and images have the same permissions, .htaccess appears to be fine. It seems like it might be a server issue because if I delete the image I no longer just get the broken image but a 404 error. So the server knows there is something there but won't display it.

This images was imported on May llth and works fine: http://tvfcu.com/r/blogs.dir/6/files/2010/02/logo-monteagle1.png

This image was uploaded today and seems to be broken: http://tvfcu.com/r/blogs.dir/6/files/2010/02/DoubleTree-logo.png

Both images appear on the server without an issue.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

When you look at the image permissions on the server, are they part of the same group?

Yup. They are exactly identical in every way.

Does the broken image show up in the media library?

They show broken in the image library just as they do when you click the links above.

Are these logos in two different sites?

They are both part of the same sub site on the network.

Have you tried re-saving the Doubletree png and uploading it again? Sometimes the way the file is saved can cause issues.

Every image uploaded has the exact same result, even if I upload another copy of the image I linked to above that works. But I did try that as well initially.

Does your httpd.conf file have AllowOverride All? See this thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-blogs-images-not-showing?replies=8

    Yes it does. :(

That thread is a little different because they could skip WordPress and type the full path and actually get the file to show up. I cannot unfortunately.

I read through it but it's still not like my issue. They were able to navigate to the image themselves and see it. I can't. It's like the server has the image but won't serve it up.

I checked all the things mentioned in the thread and my set-up is correct thus far.

What link are you using to navigate directly to the image? The one above?

The above links are direct paths to two images. One uploaded 6 days ago and the other uploaded today.

Do you have this line in your .htaccess file:
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

And this link in your httpd.conf file:
    Options FollowSymLinks

    Yes on both counts.

Can you SSH into the box and verify the image is in the right directory and see the size of the image?

Yup. I'm looking at the images in that directory right now. All specs look good on the server.

I am stumped. I am headed into a meeting. I will do some research when I get out of it if you are still having an issue.

I appreciate it. I'm sure I will because I can't think of one reason that the server should be behaving like this.I have updates to make but I can't. Very frustrating.

This is one of the strangest things I have ever encountered. From all I can tell this issue is related to the Chrome browser cache issue of all things.

The reason this is still so puzzling is that the file would show on the server but even if I place the full path to the image in another browser I would get the same results.

Sorry I wasted your time but this was truly bizarre and I'm not sure I still really understand what was happening.
