Images are not uploading
error message: "" has failed to upload due to an error
The message then reports "file empty"
File is not empty nor out of size or upload limits
There is no reason for the file not to upload.
Brand new installation no modifications or configuration changes.
Apache server.
Similar image errors are being reported here daily.
Is something being done?
Apache server....
What's in your server error logs? Or php error logs?

.. delete the apache and php logs
reboot machine
start wp-admin
media
add new
select files
window opens - select "fred.jpg" (size 20KB)
click "open"
error message appears
look in apache/php logs
no entries
logout wp
close browser (IE 8)
still no error log entries

MySQL version 559
PHP max upload filesize 1000M
max file uploads = 20
question: What happens to wordpress if mod_rewrite isn't installed
(I notice there is a .htaccess entry - could this be relevant?)

You won't be able to use custom permalinks.
