I am trying to hardcode in images to use as advertisements and placeholders and they are not showing up.
You can see this at http://www.bhmbride.com/
I added the following code to the second line of sidebar.php
<div id="spindle">
<li><a href="http://www.spindlephotography.com"><img alt="Spindle Photography" src="http://www.bhmbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/spindle.jpg</a></li>
</div>
<div id="advertise">
<li><a href="http://www.bhambride.com"><img alt="Advertise with Bham Bride" src="http://www.bhmbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/advertise.jpg</a></li>
</div>
And the rest of my sidebar.php look like this:

In both image cases you forgot to add the " /> to close the image tag... should be like this:
<div id="spindle">
<li><a href="http://www.spindlephotography.com"><img alt="Spindle Photography" src="http://www.bhmbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/spindle.jpg" /></a></li>
</div>
<div id="advertise">
<li><a href="http://www.bhambride.com"><img alt="Advertise with Bham Bride" src="http://www.bhmbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/advertise.jpg" /></a></li>
</div>

However dumb my mistake was, the fix still didn't work.

It's working for the Spindle image... for the other image, it is a blank image (http://www.bhmbride.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/advertise.jpg)
