[resolved] Images gone while editing after upgrade (4 posts)

After upgrading from 2.0.2 to 2.3.2, I can't see images in the "Browse" or "Browse All" tabs while editing a post. Instead, I see the filename of the image. Posts appear normally, with images displaying properly.

    No plugins are activated.

My uploads are organized into month-and year- based folders, but this problem happens whether or not "Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders" is checked in "Options | Miscellaneous".

It happens even if I copy the images from the month-year folders into the root of the wp-content/uploads folder. (I assume that's where they go if they're not organized into month-year folders.)

It happens even if I revert the three wp-admin files that I've customized (with cosmetic changes) to the originals.

It happens in Firefox 2.0.0.9 and Safari 2.0.4 and 3.0.4 on a Mac, and Internet Explorer in Windows.

    Any suggestions?

I had this same problem it has to do with the way the thumbnails are generated in the newest version. It requires the GD be installed and compiled into php, you might can talk to your host, but I have a feeling they wont do anything about it. Also 2.3.3 is the newest version, security issues in 2.3.2.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

I'm not sure it's a problem with generating the thumbnails; they've already been generated and are in the uploads folder. It's more of a problem accessing the existing thumbnails. Did the naming convention for thumbnails change from version 2.0.2 (which is what I upgraded from) to 2.3.2?

My host uses , if that matters.

According to phpinfo, PHP version is 4.3.11, GD is enabled, and is version "bundled (2.0.28 compatible)", FreeType Linkage is "with FreeType", and all the GD stuff is enabled (GD Support, FreeType Support, T1LibSupport,GIF Read Support, GIF Create Support, JPG Support, PNG Support, WBMP Support, XBM Support).

(Thanks for the note about 2.3.3; I installed the security fix from it by uploading the new xmlrpc.php. Any way to find what other files have changed? I can't seem to find release notes for 2.3.3 that list the modified files.)

I figured out what's causing this problem: the upgrade killed the wp_postmeta database table. (MySQL "error #1016 - Can't open file: 'wp_postmeta.MYI' (errno: 145)" when I try to access it from phpMyAdmin.)

Somehow WP is still more-or-less working, which is amazing.

I'll back out of the upgrade and try again.
