    Hello,

I'm currently creating a site under wordpress 3.5.1
I've just uploaded wordpress clean and got trough the installation process.

Somehow when I upload a image it is broken(broken link). in the media menu item it gives the broken link image icon. and when I insert it in a post it gives the broken link icon on edititing. and when published and viewed on the website it just doesnt show up at all.

The only way it displays correctly is if I click edit from the media screen and then on edit image..

    Anyone knows what is wrong?

    Thanx in advance,
    Merijn de Klerk

So it is not a broken link but an access rights problem

For some reason your directory uploads was not created with the correct access rights.

Does your host provide a cpanel interface or something equivalent ?

You have to give the same permissions to uploads as those you see on wp-content

This is not really surprising as the uploads directory is not created at installation time but only when the first media is uploaded

    Some good reading here http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

Sounds like merijndk was saying it isn't very safe to have 777 permissions.

    Ah ok :)

    I checked on my blogs

    directories have 755
    images have 644

What is strange is why you have to change permissions manually ?

Is your site hosted or is it running on your linux machine ?
