   Am getting error messages that I have no idea how to get round:

   When I try to upgrade to version 2.8.6 I get the following message: "Error: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct."

   When I try to upload an image using the toolbar on the left of the dashboard, the following message appears: "Error saving media attachment."

   When I try to upload an image using Quickpress, this message flashes up: "Unable to create directory /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/tomdecastella.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2009/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?"

   Any ideas what I need to do to upgrade and to use photos?

   With regard to uploading images, try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

   As for the upgrade, it sounds like your FTP settings need adding to your wp-config.php file.

   define('FTP_PASS', 'password');
   define('FTP_HOST', 'ftp.example.org:21');

   Contact your hosting provider to obtain your FTP username, password and host details.
