Image/Media Uploader Not working (25 posts)

    I installed WP a few days ago. Right after the install I used the image uploader to insert an image into a new blog. It worked perfectly. But ever since it hasn't worked!

    Everything seems to go okay until I click Insert into Post. When I click that the image upload/management window goes blank. It just turns white and then it dies. I have to click Close to get out of it or it would just stay in the screen totally blank. When I click close the image is never inserted into the post.

    Tried again today with a Flash file - got the exact same result. Any ideas? Thanks!

    I thought maybe it was a browser problem so I've tried in all of them! And get the same thing no matter which one:

    IE
    Opera
    Chrome
    FireFox
    Safari

    Try re-uploading the wp-includes folder.

    Hey.... no, that didn't make any difference. It's weird because the media management window seems to work fine. I can upload files and manage them and stuff... it's just when I click Insert into Post it turns to white (i.e. goes blank) and freezes on the screen.

    Are you using any form of popup blocker? Can you try adding an image on a completely different machine? I'm not sure that it's a WP issue but you could try re-uploading wp-admin and wp-include just in case. Also check through all files in your root WP folder for any suspicious code.

    I'm having exactly the same problem with my blog, the other two work OK and one of them is the same version (latest), but the last blog I have done won't upload pictures.

    Try deactivating all plugins and switching to the default theme.

    No, that hasn't worked either... Is there anyway I can get a picture to show by linking from the other blog? (Picture as opposed to the URL).

    You'd need to get the image's url on the second blog which you get get by right-clicking on the image within a post and then selecting "Properties". The url would then need to be manually inserted in to the first blog's post content using:

    <img src="http://some_domain.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/5/thispic.jpg" alt="" />

    You may also want to check through all WP files though. Without wishing to be alarmist, some site hacks have been known to impact on WP Admin functionality.

    Yeah, I have another domain on the same server with the exact same wp installation (separate installs but exact same files & database). I can insert an image with that one okay. But if I try to insert a video, it doesn't actually insert the video, but it does insert the text from the TITLE field.

    But back on my other one - even after disabling all plugins it still didn't work.

    All .php files in the root WordPress directory and all of its sub-directories. A link to your site might also help to determine if there is anything untoward going on.

    All my files are there. My site is: http://americanfreedomnow.com. I'm also running the exact same thing on http://americanmiracle.us - and it works perfectly there. Both domains are on the same server.

    thanks!

    @pginfo: There's a line of invalid characters between your header and your page content. It starts with:

    <!-- /HEADER -->
    <!-- <div style="float:left;"> -->

    and ends with

    <!-- </div> --><!-- CONTENT -->

    Remove everything from <!-- <div style to <!-- </div> -->.

    I'm not suggesting that this text is suspicious but neither is it helping, so it's best removed.

    What are you using to generate the dropdown menus?

    @jcerious: Start by removing (what I assume is) the Google tracker script at the top of the page before the header. I think you'll find it at the top if header.php. It needs to go elsewhere. Perhaps in the footer before the </body> tag? I also noticed that you're using the ShareThis plugin on the problem site but not on the other site. Have you tried deactivating this plugin?

    Thanks esmi - but didn't help.

    The analytics code is in the index.php file - above the area where the php starts. I did remove it though and removed ShareIt too... but still same problem - blank white screen after clicking "Insert Into Post".

    I've also tried removing ALL the plugins, and that didn't do anything either.

    It appears that it has to do with the .htaccess file in the root directory of your WordPress site. Go to wp-content/uploads/
    Try removing the .htaccess file.
    or if you have User Access Manager activated, de-activate it - this worked for me.
