   When I try to add an image, the thumbnail, medium and full size radio buttons show, but the large button is grayed out.

   I tried playing around with the 'media settings' but to no avail.

   Any tips?

   Is your full size image smaller than the dimensions you have set for the large image?

   no, the image is 800*600 and the media settings for large image is 400 max height, 400 max width.

   What size is your medium image?

   medium image is 300 by 225

   Have you tried:

   - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

   - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

   Yes, I've been reading around about this, and that sometimes works.

   The odd thing is that when I change the media settings -for example, changing medium to 400*300, this doesn't change the medium size from 300*225 when inserting.

   At any rate, I did figure out a work around. Insert the image at full size, 800*600, and then edit image, choosing advanced settings. There you can set any size you like. It works, the post shows the chosen size, but when you double click on the photo, it shows the full size -which is what I wanted.

   I came across many people posting that they had a similar problem, usually with the large button. There doesn't appear to be a common solution out there.

   Changing the image dimensions only affects any images you upload in the future. It won't resize the images you have already uploaded. For that, you need the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.

   Yes, you are correct. Changed the media setting, then tried new post and it worked.

   Still doesn't explain the grayed out 'large' button. Probably is one of the plugins.
