Image Quality

When I post an image it always looks very compressed. I can assure you that the image I use is very good indeed. I size it properly and when I place it in the post I always insure the sizing in the config dialog matches the actual image size. Yet, there always appears to be some artifcating –like it is overly compressed. When I used Google’s Blog software the images are very clean and look great. Does WordPress do something to the images after I upload them?
