  • it seems to me that the image handling abilities in WP have suffered some serious shortcomings for far too long and i am sure there are many who would would like to see them addressed

    the problem…
    by default, WP generates multiple images from images uploaded to the gallery and since many/most/all of the additional sizes may not ever be used, they serve no tangible purpose and thus are a complete waste of resources, including valuable disk space

    the solution…
    new image sizes should be generated only when an image is added to WP content and the user chooses a size that is different from the original

    all image attributes (alt, title, etc.) other than width and height should be copied from the original image by default

    the other major item i forgot to mention is adding the missing ability to organize content in the media gallery by user-defined folders from the UI

    I second that – most crunched images are never used – what a waste of space! As for organizing – a neat solution would be the ability to assign single or multiple categories for images. This would make arranging and finding the appropriate images much easier!
