    Hey there,

I'm attempting to create an image gallery for a template I've been working on that contains thumbnails of a non-uniform size ala windows metro style.

Searching around the web has pulled up surprisingly few results on the matter and I'm not sure really where to start.

This is what im going for.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hey!

You might want to check out the Jetpack plugin. It does what you're looking for, as you can see in this post about the feature.

    Hey there,

Thanks for the reply! I'd like to create my theme to be all-inclusive and keep reliance on third party components to a minimum. While certain circumstances deem this unavoidable, like when using a carousel, I think my tiled layout is definitely doable.

Part of the reason is compatibility and ease of use. For instance, when I installed jetpack just now I was able to get it working, but not right out of the box. As well as that, the tiled magazine layout still won't cooperate and configuration toggles that documentation alleges are there aren't.

get_the_post_thumbnail seems promising. Thanks for your help.

Jetpack is definitely a big plugin, and some things aren't enabled by default, or very intuitive. I believe you find the configuration toggles you're talking about in each individual gallery as an option when you insert it into a post or page.

If you want to go the custom route, maybe give Masonry a try. It's a custom jQuery library that WordPress includes by default. It will take some custom coding to get it working with your galleries, but it's possible.

    Good luck!
