  • Coming from Blogger, I didn’t like the seemingly clumsy and heavy-handed nature of WordPress. It seemed needlessly complex, modular, and distant.

After tweaking and reading, downloading and uploading, activating and adjusting, I’m finally getting close to WordPress.

Akismet and All in One SEO really made me feel better about WordPress. The SPAM is gone and I can add metadata. Yes!

Looks like I’ll be staying with WordPRess after all. I’m starting to love WordPress. Anybody else learn to love WordPress? Any suggestions and/or tips you’re willing to share? Any plugins? I have some basics (I guess), but don’t want to load up on plugins. Just some really good, necessary ones. Anyway, I’d love to hear what made you love WordPress 🙂

I’ve been using WordPress for well over five years now after escaping from MovableType. I heard that WordPress 1.2 came out, so I tried it and never looked back.

Regarding plugin recommendations (besides Akismet and All in One SEO), I highly recommend the following:

Add to Any Share Button, to provide an easy way for your readers to share their favorite posts and pages.

Add to Any Subscribe Button, to provide an easy way for your readers to subscribe to your blog.

Better Feed, to add a copyright notice, as well as other useful features, to your feed.

Viper’s Video Quicktags, to facilitate the embedding of videos from a variety of sources with valid markup.

WP SlimStat, to monitor live site statistics.

    Another happy converter!

As a blogging platform, there really is no competition. WP is simply the best offering out there.

Additionally, as a CMS, WP has made leaps and bounds on other tools. Tools like Joomla and Drupal may still have an edge in terms of crazy functionality but neither can compete when it comes to how user-friendly WP is. It’s really the perfect balance of ease of use, control, and features.

James, thanks for those suggestions. I really like the idea of WP Slimstats. I have similar plugins to the others installed.

Gabe, I’ve only used Blogger, Tumblr, iWeb (don’t laugh. I had a reason for that), some hosted blog apps, and WordPress. Out of them all, WordPress is truly superior.

    Thanks for the feedback!
