I'm trying to find 3 plugins for a theme I'm writing (which will be added to the ever-growing free themes list when complete).

The first is a post slider for the front page, that looks like the one on http://www.imdb.com on their home page.

The second is an advanced search, which would allow users to search in selected category, using a drop-down menu, just as is available on http://www.imdb.com.

The third is a plugin that uses short codes which would be the title of a page or post, which would create a link to that page or post. For example, if I was writing a post about Alice in Wondeland, I could write the following in my post:

This film, starring Johnny Depp [johnny-depp], has now made millions at the box office.

This would then look like this:

This film, starring Johnny Depp, has now made millions at the box office.

It doesn't have to be exactly like that, but something that would allow short codes to be written in a simple way, so members of the site could also add their own info.

You may have guessed that I'm writing an IMDB clone.

If you want to display posts in your slider, I would go with Smooth Slider:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smooth-slider/

    and for search-by-category:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-by-category/

Your last requirement is interesting.... I can't think of anything that would do it off-the-shelf, but you could certainly add a new shortcode to your functions.php file. I might be able to develop a plugin for this on a freelance basis - drop me a message if you're interested.

I think that there are several shortcodes plugins, but I don't know if they do what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info, I'm trying out various methods.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to outsource any plugins, as I'm making the theme available free once it is complete.
