I'm new to this. I have a question. If you want to install something, and you download it, what do you do with the file? (I tried to download Top Commenters). Also, do I need to have a domain or can I have SITENAME.wordpress.com to have it sucessfully installed?

If your blog is a self-hosted WordPress blog plugins are uploaded to your wp-contents/plugins folder. If you're using wordpress.COM then you can't use plugins. WordPress.COM has its own support forums.

Posted 3 years ago #I am not sure to understand your question, but if you run Windows, you usually install something by clicking on the .exe file. Also, I recommand to use anti-virus software to scan it before you open it. If it is a zip or rar file, you need to uncompress it. On Linux, tar.gz is a compressed file and installation varies according to the distribution.
