IIS install: permalinks work, static home page does not (7 posts)

I did a fair bit of googling and forum searching but couldn't find anything with this exact issue.

This is my first install of WP 2.6.2 on an IIS server (done several on Linux servers with no problems) and it's been a minor nightmare. Now everything appears to be working, except the static home page.

If I use custom permalink structure /index.php/%postname%/ then mysite.com/index.php/home/ works, but setting page 'Home' as the front page ends up in a 404.

However, if I switch back to Default permalinks then the front page instantly works, but I lose the slightly pretty permalinks.

Does anybody have a clue that could help me out? Thanks.

Hello Indextwo: It's not much consolation, but I'm having exactly the same problem. I'll keep watching this string to see if anyone has any suggestions. I'm sure that it is something simple, but when you are on a learning curve it is slow-going. Dave Harrington

Finally uploaded to 2.6.3 today and now I'm having this exact same problem (I'm also on a Windows server so no .htaccess). I cannot access my homepage, but can access everything else just fine with my custom permalinks. Then if I change back to default permalinks, I can access my homepage, but nothing else works. I recall this being a problem the last time I upgraded, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

Would this be a problem with the upgrade or a problem with my server?

I've tried deactivating my plugins, but that changes nothing. I also tried changing back to the default theme, but I get an error message (page not found) when I click on the default or classic themes. I've already deleted and reinstalled those files, and nothing has changed.

I've already tried everything on that page. All these permalink fixes involve stripping index.php from the permalink, which I do not want. Before the upgrade, permalinks worked fine on my blog because I had updated the php.ini file, and in fact, they still work. It's simply the homepage that does not work and I don't understand why. Why does only http://www.ielanguages.com/blog/index.php work and not http://www.ielanguages.com/blog/ ? How can I make the /blog/ directory redirect to index.php?

We have a similar problem. Our pages all work, and we are using the same custom structure (/index.php/%postname%/) but if you try to comment on our (static) home page, you get the 404. We run IIS6, so I'm not sure this will help us, but it may help some other people:
