This is probably a no brainer, but I can't figure it out. Do I create a Page Template that calls for the index.php file and then a page or is there a conditional statement I should put in the header file?
If you have static front page, how do you access the index? (3 posts)

It all depends on the version you are using.
If 2.1 and above (2.2) - read this:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/106640?replies=3#post-567841If the 2.0.x branch - and you have a physical file used as home page (e.g. home.php), you can not access the index.
