If comment count is 0 for a post, the “0 Comments” text does not appear

    I’m using the following code:

    <?php
comments_number('no responses','one response','% responses');?>

    If a post has no comments, the comment count (not even the word “comments”) appears. It just shows the reply form. How can this be fixed?
