• I’m having a problem where Internet Explorer users cannot comment on my blog (www.kduck.net) … I use Firefox, so it is not a problem. However, when an IE user clicks on the link, it either 1) doesn’t open the link or 2) Does not let them type in the comment box … I made some cosmetic changes to my blog last night but nothing major. What could be the problem?

    Everyone’s help is appreciated!

  • hmm, what could be the problem besides they are using IE? You should take anything IE users have to say with dose of reality anyway… as the saying goes… “Too dumb to come in out of the rain or use a better browser.”

Solving your question as presented is like searching for a needle in a haystack… blindfolded.

I wish everyone would use Firefox!

Beel, what do you need to see to help me out?

    Your site.

    It’s in the original post

I suspect it is a problem with your flickr badge. Remove it temp. and see if that fixes thangs.

Hmm … I’ve had it there for a few months without problem but I’ll try it …

It may not be that, but it is a layout issue, there is an “invisible layer” over the content in IE ;-). Could be an open div, or something similar. You might also try to validate your page to see if the current errors are causing the problem.

For some reason I can post comments on my Mac version of IE … i hate browser compatibility!

Try this… comment out the sidebar call in the file.

I just posted a comment on your blog (it was tricky) so the issue is one of layout – I would first fix the improper XHTML (I still think it is something in the sidebar causing the problem).

    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.kduck.net/?p=441&charset=(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&ss=1&verbose=1

You have this in your sidebar </br> I don’t know, but even something like that may “break” ability to write in the comment form.

“Try this… comment out the sidebar call in the file.”

I don’t understand what you mean

In the file it has <?php get_sidebar() ?> (or something similar, depending on how old your theme is). You can comment it out with <?php // get_sidebar() ?> and temporarily remove the entire sidebar to see if it is the problem area.

your comment came though so i’m not sure if it’s working now or not … because, like i said, it worked on my IE for Mac, but not for the PCers before

It is not working – I had to “tab” through to get to the commentform, I still cannot select it with my mouse. This was just a test to make sure my suspicion was correct.

Fix the br tag I mentioned above, too. This is going to be a simple fix, just hard to track down.

ok, i edited out the sidebar and erased the BR … what do you think?

(Thanks for this help, by the way)
