[resolved] IE does not show Nav bar correctly with 2012 theme (15 posts)

    Hello,
I set up a child theme for Twenty Twelve to customize it for a client of mine. I am still a bit new at the customization and it is a basic site for starters. It looks fine in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, but in Internet Explorer the nav bar is not centered and it does not have the different color of the text and the borders. I've looked around but not much I read makes sense. I'm hoping there is a simple fix. Any help would be much appreciated!

Which version if IE are you experiencing the issue in?
Does the issue persist on the demo's website http://wp-themes.com/twentytwelve ?

I'm not sure which version of IE. I am not currently at a windows computer as I work mostly from a Mac.
And I'm not sure what you mean if it persists on the demo site. Is there a way to insert my child theme there to see what happens?

I thought the issue was with the 2012 theme (from the thread's title) so I was wondering if you could demonstrate it on the 2012 theme's demo website.

I wrote a child theme for the 2012 theme. Ive never used the demo site so not sure what to do with it? In my child theme I centered the nav bar and changed the color of the text and the border. IE does not display that correctly.

The version of IE is imperative to the fix.

Sorry I didn't have this to begin with. I have IE8 and I don't know if it is working on other versions. Is there a way to download multiple versions of IE for testing?

Older versions require older operating systems to run on, but the issue is apparent in IE8?

Yes, I am running IE 8 on VMWare Fusion on my Mac and that is where I am seeing the problem with the nav bar not displaying correctly.

Ah yes, the centring issue is with the inline-block style. That's usually something to avoid in CSS if you want a browser-compatible website. I'd remove that (applied to the <ul> element, display it block instead). It doesn't seem to be doing anything but causing trouble.

For the text colour issues, there's a stylesheet loading specifically for IE versions under 9. That's resetting your text color to a dark grey. You may have to add !important to your green colour style to override this, or use more specific selectors.

Thanks! This seems simple enough. I've removed the inline-block style but it is still not centered. I deleted the history to refresh IE.

Oh sorry, I forgot you need to add text-align: center; on the <ul> too.

Wow! I'm sold on this forum.
The text-align: center was already there so I added the !important to it and to the colors. Now it looks fine. Thanks so much, you saved me!
