Idiot-proof backup & hit tracking (1 post)

I'm new to WordPress and utterly html-illiterate. I'm trying to (a) figure out a way to track how many hits my site gets, both overall and on specific pages, and (b) figure out a simple way to back-up my site before I install anything new to do (a).

My ignorance is not absolute: I've used Google Analytics at work, although I never had anything to do with setting it up, and I have been using the "export" command to create at least a bare-bones backup file.

But I'm completely confused on how to do a proper backup (did it once, can't for the life of me remember how) or even to install a plugin, which seems to require mucking about in hmtl, a terrifying thought.
