• Hi guys. I’d like to know if it were possible to make a guide page.

For example the page would consist of many how-to guides. And a possible option with listing A-Z for an easier search. And possibly have all of them archived. Also be able to place a widget on my side bar that would show newest 5 guides and 5 most popular guides.

If the widget isn’t possible that’s fine I really just want to setup a guide section.

This is my site if needed. http://www.compkiosk.com

Come on someone has to know something…

Isn’t what you are asking, “Can someone build an entire functioning section for me?”

I suggest you break up your problem into chunks, eg how to display wordpress posts in a-z format, google it, search for it on the wordpress forums, and try it yourself. THEN you should post on here if you encoutner certain problems. You should try and teach yourself though!

It is possible by the way ; )

Here’s some info on stuff to research….. the codex and google will be your friend for this

You could use categories, tags, or custom post types to organize your how to posts. Any of them would work…..

Once you decide which to use, you then always assign the same category or tag, or always make your how to guides using custom post types.

You can then create a page template and use query posts to display just your selected posts….. query posts can also be used to determine how many guides to show on a page, and to determine the order.

If you just want a listing, and not the whole article displayed, you would craft your loop to show just the title

And finally for the widgets, best bet would be to register a new sidebar, and attach it to the new page template…..that way this page can have its own widgets
