    Hi, have the latest version of Events Manager running on the latest version of WordPress.

    Really need the iCal files to work but keep getting the following message:

    "iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."

    Can't understand why as it imports ical files ok from your demo site.
    Please help.

    since it's working when you try our demo site? have you check your site visibility?

    the website is currently in maintenance mode.
    I removed maintenance mode but ical still not working.

    I'm able to download the ics file to my computer, and the file all looks correct, but ical returns the same message each time:

    "iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."

    Anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

    Deleted. Thought I found the reason why I can't import into Google Calendar (no events appear), but I was wrong. The feed validates perfectly. Still perplexed.

    have you tried opening the ical in a text editor?

    also, make sure you're on 5.4.3 , there's a fix on that version that may have sorted the problem already.

    Hi Marcus, yes opened ics file in text editor and it all looks correct (which makes it more perplexing).

    using the latest version 5.4.3.

    tried the validator, had 1 warning which gave the message:

    Line endings must be a Carriage Return/Line Feed (CRLF) pair.

    For me, the Google Calendar issue appears to have been due to a caching of the robots.txt "file" for a restricted site. Apple Calendar found the events, Google Calendar prevented them from being added.

    google calendar link works fine, it's the ics file that can't be imported into ical that's the problem for me.

    Marcus, could the Line endings must be a Carriage Return/Line Feed (CRLF) pair. warning be relevant to ical not importing ics file?

    I tried @Marcus suggested link - http://icalvalid.cloudapp.net/ and it works fine on my site without any warning or error (using 5.4.3); is it possible to share your site ics link here for us to see or check?

    have you modified our ical template at all?

    it may be that the error you mentioned is what's causing the problem. however, normally it works fine so now we need to figure out why not on your site.

    maybe worth trying reinstalling EM - deactivate, delete (NOT uninstall) and then install again.

    i didn't modify it straight away, but have since to try to get it working.

    I think i'm going to try installing it on a fresh wordpress site with no plugins at all to see if it works there for me.

    Hi Marcus, activated Event Manager on a clean install of WordPress (no other plugins running). Same issue for me regarding iCal files.

    Here's a link to a Test Event with iCal link:
    http://showroombook.com/events/test-event/

    Still get the same message when clicking link to download and import into icalendar;

    "iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."

    Hi Marcus, Have you had a chance to click on the iCal link above yet? http://showroombook.com/events/test-event/

    hmm, I see what you mean but when I try to paste your events.ics contents at http://icalvalid.cloudapp.net/ it's 100% okay ? also, your events.ics looks ok in text editors.

    that's the strange thing about it. The ics code looks ok, it parses via http://icalvalid.cloudapp.net/ ok, yet when you click on the iCal event link, it doesn't get added to the icalendar and still returns the failure message: "iCal can’t read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar."

    Hiya!

    As you suggested earlier, this appears to be a problem with robots.txt rather than the iCal feed.

    When I tried to add it to my Google Calendar I received this message;

    Could not fetch the URL because robots.txt prevents us from crawling the URL.

    Your robots.txt has the following;

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /

    That tells Google it is not allowed to look at your site, and is the reason why Google Calendar doesn't work.

    First, check your privacy settings within WordPress at Settings > Reading > Search Engine Visibility. If that setting is ticked, untick it. You'll have to wait for Google to reindex your robots.txt before it'll work again.

    Cheers,
    Phil

    The issue for me is not Google Calendar link, it's the ics to add to ical on Mac or iPhone.

    I have added the Google Calendar link to temp page here:

    http://showroombook.com/events/test-event/

    and the Google calendar link works fine with disallowed robots.

    Will change next to allow robots to see if that affects ics for ical.

    no, didn't work. Changed to allow robots but ics file still not working. Any ideas Marcus? any code I should change or update to get the ical working?

    Hi all,

    if you can post a link to your ics files (or your domain), then i can try it out

    @Christian, your issue is different, as this is exclusive to desktop clients. Try http://icalvalid.cloudapp.net/ and post links etc. in a new thread.

    Thanks Marcus, look forward to what you come up with to get the ical working. It's a great plugin for creating and laying out events, and will be perfect for my needs once the ical ics works too.
