• I have just started setting up a website at wordpress.org, but I can’t find a tab for privacy setting so that I can keep the site private until I am ready for others to see it. Where do I find the option for this?
    Thanks.

  • You can use a plugin for this. For example Disable Site one should do the trick.

    Try one of these.

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=maintenance+mode

That way if you’re not logged in then you’ll just see the wait page.

Edit: It doesn’t do private exactly though there is a setting for asking search engines to not index your site.

See “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” via

    http://your-url-here/wp-admin/options-reading.php

To keep it really private try a plugin as above.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll follow them up asap.

This is a plugin that we suggest using.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-coming-soon-page/

    Install it then Activate it.
Go to the plugin settings and “Enable” it – so that anyone NOT logged into your website will see your message.

On that same screen you can add a Logo, a “coming soon” message and even some links to your social media. You could even ask them to sign up with their email to be notified when your website goes live!

    Cheers!
