I want the option of recieving pingbacks but not sending them in every post. I see there used to be a checkbox on the write page in 1.2, but it is not in 1.5, or at least not my write page.

sometimes I have allot of links in an article but none are to blogs. so I don’t want to use pingback. mostly because it hangs when posting and then I have 4 posts when i check.

Login, go to Options/Discussion, uncheck “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)”.

OK. that is half the problem no it won’t pingback, but there is no check to send a pingback in a particular post.

I guess I could go back into options recheck it and then post then uncheck it. why did they loose the check box in 1.5?

If you are in Write Post > Advanced Editing panel, you will see the check box you are talking about.

Which box are you talking about?

I’m a newbie and I can’t find the box. I disabled “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting)” in the options, but it still takes a few minutes to post an article. Actually, often it won’t post at all (timed out).

The only way I found around this is to publish a blank entry to the blog and then go back and edit it. Like brianbonner, this particular blog needs to have about 20 links per post. Even when I use the trick I described earlier, the entry takes more than a minute to publish. It’s rather annoying, because I often have to go back and re-edit published posts to correct them. It’s a huge time loss.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it a lot.

Yeah I’m not seeing this so called checkbox either, I see it being mentioned in Help/Wiki, but not on my “Write Post” page (I’ve got “show advanced editing” on by default).

As far as I am aware, all urls are pinged and there is no option.
I have to agree that this can slow posting hugely and I too would like the option of a per-post-ping.

Same here….. I just posted another thread about this (didn’t see this one up front). Sounds like this is a big problem. Has any one posted it to the bug tracker?

I’d submit it, but …. well, that’s another story for another time.

I unchecked the auto button, but it still pingbacks.

The check box for pings is on the Write Post panel. There is a box to enter the title, and to the immediate right of this is another box with the following:

    [ ] Allow Comments
    [ ] Allow Pings

There you go. If it isn’t there, then there is a bigger problem, but I’ve been using a variety of 1.5 versions and its been there in every one.

Heh, Lorelle you basically suggested what I did earlier this week. But as it turns out everyone above is talking about sending pings. Per post there is no option, either you globally shut it off or you globally leave it on.

Now that I’m aware of this, I want this option, too! Did anyone submit a bug…?

Yup, I posted about this before too

Seems really weird that they took the option away.

I wish some one would…. I’d do it myself, but I’m….. eh…. that’s a story for another time.

    Any word on this?
