I want a who is online

Very newbie question.
Just starting out in the world of WordPress and like some of the plugins.
Found one called wieisonline …I know it can work in English, and I have had it activated.
The only thing is it displays Welcome (Name), Your last visit was some date in 1969… It would not change… Is there any way to get a who is online plugin that will tell the current date.

I know this is supposed to go in the sidebar.php, but I have no idea really where in the code to put that snippet.
I just stuck it somewhere at the top.

I tried another one, and it worked but the font was huge…and took over the whole sidebar.
even tried changing the < H2 > to 4. Nope. won’t work for me.

I got a million questions…..but will only ask this for now LOL.. So lost on the plug ins

Dumb question, but did you try logging out then back in? Maybe it just used 1969 because it had no previous record of you? :oS

You could always just download GamerZ Who’s or User’s Online Plugin, rather..

But by default, it won’t show a person’s name and so forth, unless they logged in or registered perhaps..

Never a dumb question asked in my opinion. I tried going in from my other computer and it showed the same date.
Heard from another person that it has happened to also.

spencerp… Yes that was the one which diplayed the font all across the page. Was massive.

spencerp, I see your plugin also shows where the users are… GREAT.

Is it also possible to show the names browsing a page where you are on?

Like:
Users browsing this page: name name name etc

Sec: It would be great if you used AJAX, so the names en number of quests etc is shown on the fly, lik eis done with:

dBgrafix, are you sure you added the coding right for the sidebar though. =) Just was wondering, cause it don’t make sense of why it would have it all over the page. Also, what version of WordPress you using? Because he has the plugin for both versions of WordPress. Version 2.0 and the one before it 1.5.2.

@null, I’m not really sure about that…being that the plugins aren’t mine. But, you could always ask GamerZ about it or something. Usually, it will show the names of the “active” users when or if they registered to your blog.

But, using it as say like a message board “who’s online” option, I’m not sure. Well, Vbulletin board’s “who’s online” is awesome, but still, the member’s are logged in and registered to know what they are doing lol. I dunno Null, would be awesome if someone could do this I guess..maybe ask GamerZ on here or at his site like I said…

Hi spencerp. The one that is useronline200, I added the sinppet that came in readme-install.

I noted there is 3 php files with that zip.

So kinda confused as to which one to use in my WP1.5

The other one which displays the wrong date is from McMike
Tried asking on his website and an email as he suggested, but have not heard back, so I don’t like to bug people.He already said I could use one of his themes and modify it. Was quite impressed with that kindness
Somehow one of these has to work.

Null….I tried asking him. He requested that I send or ask any questions in email .
If they don’t reply back I am not going to keep sending.
That’s why I posted here, thinking someone would be able to explain the process of adding this plug in.
It is probably real easy, but sure has me puzzled.

I use the GamerZ plugin, it works nicely. It does taker a bit of customization of the wp-whosonline.php file to get it to display properly in some themes, although it’s nothing that heavy.

Also, if you use that one, I suggest downloading his 2.0.1 development version at dev.wp-plugins.org. It fixes an annoying database key duplication bug that would normally display an ugly php error every now and then due to a person logging out or in and refreshing the page quickly.

I have it enabled at my website if you’d like to see what it looks like.

lebaige, awesome! That’s one thing I had a problem with, always shot out a duplicate key for me at the header of the blog, when I went back to the Blog’s index page, when after I was done viewing the whosonline page. =(
