if he changed the default theme and it was not backed up – then it was overwritten in the upgrade
the default and classic themes are always overwritten
This highlights the importance of creating a new theme folder or using a child theme structure.
Depending on where your site is hosted, perhaps a backup exists.
Thank you for your response.
Can you tell me how I will know if it was backed up?
How is it that I implement that backup? If it fairly easy to do?
see if the developer made a backup, or ask your host if they have a backup
for you to backup, you simply copy the theme folder. (I make one copy, zip it and keep it on the server for easy access….and keep on on my computer for safety)
the host does have a backup. The developer asked for access to the host to upload the files. Just not sure how to now get the site back to where it was??
just reupload the theme (if it is an edited version of the default theme, now is the time to rename it so it doesn’t get overwritten again next upgarde)
only problem, not sure how to do that, lol.
use an ftp client
http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients
or host’s file manager/cpanel
to upload the back up theme folder
if it is stilled named “default”, you will want to delete the default theme folder that is there 1st
the theme folder is located in the /wp-content
folder` in the wordpress root
