I uninstalled WP... Need to re-install with the prior MySQL database! (10 posts)

    Hi,

    For some reason, I thought it would be easier to delete my old blog and start over from scratch. That was idiot. So now I need to find a way to get it back. The database is there, with all the data, but how do I do to make it work again with the pages and everything?

    I tried to reconfigure wp-config.php and entered the name of the database with username and password, and when I when to http://www.site.com/wp-admin or whatever the page the only thing I could see was this strange character at top left of the screen:

    Or else, this message:

    Directory has no index file.
    Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.

    If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

    * index.html
    * index.htm
    * default.htm
    * Default.htm
    * home.html
    * Home.chtml

    NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

    Anyone can help me?

    For starters: Did you re-install in new server or are you using old server? When you reinstalled, did you use the WP version which you used with old database? If you need your old version just to start off, go download version from release archives.

    Hi,

    I reinstalled on the same server, with the new version... I should try with the old one?

    But anyway, I got to a point where it said that it was already installed. That's where I was stucked.

    Ok then, just go to your login page - http://wwww.example.com/login.php or http://www.example.com/wp-admin/ and see if you can log in.

    I see that strange symbol in the upper left corner of the screen:

    and the rest is blank.

    So strange.

    Hmmm... Right now when I connect I see the site, normally, but when I try to log to wp-admin, after I enter the name + password I get the blank page with

    again.

    What can cause this?

    And now something new: when I try log in, I get the message: "ERROR: WordPress requires Cookies but your browser does not support them or they are blocked."

    But of course my cookies and browser should be ok and it works anywhere else... So Strange.

    Check your wp-config.php and see if there's a blank space at the top before or beside <?php which might have been added, delete the space and re-upload. While you're at it, re-upload wp-admin and wp-includes folders plus root files, then make sure that all files have been uploaded for sure. Good luck.

    For the record, here is how I dealed with this:

    1) I recovered my old database from a bacukp;
    2) I reinstalled everything and imported what was missing...

    All this trouble!

    Thanks!
