Support » Fixing WordPress » I think my database is damaged

  • I updated my WordPress to 2.7 and the whole blog disappeared with a Fatal Error. I followed the instructions to get back to the older version, but when I tried to import the old database it ‘timed out’ I tried several times without success. I managed to import another back-up database and that was successful, except it was not totally complete.
It did enable me to get back into my blog but it has no posts or comments. They are in the database but won’t appear. I wrote a new test post but although it went through OK, it still doesn’t appear on the blog.
Is the database damaged? If so, is there a way to fix it? When I look in phpMyAdmin, ‘wp_ngg_album’, ‘wp_ngg_pic2tags’ and ‘wp_ngg_tags’ are empty. Should they have data in them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ‘wp_ngg_album’, ‘wp_ngg_pic2tags’ and ‘wp_ngg_tags’ are empty.

Those are not standard WordPress tables but they might be added by some plugin.

A fatal error may not have been an issue with your database but rather the 2.7 WordPress files were not completely uploaded.

I’d reupload the WordPress files (see Steps 7 and 8 of Upgrading WordPress Extended, then since that backup you have is from an earlier WordPress version I’d do the wp-admin/upgrade.php step.

A database (or specific tables) can be repaired via phpMyAdmin.
