• I tried uploading everything back to the folders and it all goes up to the install.php page and then it becomes blank. Does this mean I lost all of my previous entries? How can I get it to show the blog again? I tried reinstalling to another directory and it worked okay but it started me from scratch… will I just have to start from scratch on the main blog and if so… what can I do so it at least shows the blank wordpress page again? Help! Anyone have messenger I can add to help me through this? I would thank you forever and design any banners or graphics for you if needed.

The blog is at http://www.riodejaneiroblog.com (now blank)

my test blog was able to work here: http://riodejaneiroblog.com/wordpress

  • The blog posts are kept in a database, so what you overwrote was just the files that pull the data and format it for readers. You should be able to reupload a fresh copy and you should be fine. Should. I notice that you said you “reinstalled” and that could be a problem. You don’t need to install anything because that does modify the database, just upload a fresh copy of the files.

I uploaded the latest version of wordpress… however, it keeps taking me to that blank page… any idea why it quits at install.php?

Why do you need to install your wordpress files? You said you deleted them – that doesn’t uninstall WP. Not unless you deleted your database too.

You should check you database whether your original tables are intact or not. When you installed the new copy of WordPress you may have dropped the original tables.
If you still have them then you need only configure config.php in your new install. If you did not change the prefix in the config.php then you probably have overwritten your original tables.
In this case, you should ask your host if they have a recent backup of your database.
Your original blog was in your root. You may keep it there and there is no need for install unless you use a newer version. In that case you should run upgrade.php
But the main question is your original database.
That should be checked first of all.
