I only want to see ‘Parent’ pages in right sidebar,no ‘child’

I’m fairly new to this, but not totally in the dark. This might be a stupid question – but I do need your help;
I am using veryplaintext. In the sidebar, under the pages heading (‘contents’) I only want to show the ‘Parent’ page. I have the ‘Child’ pages set up as links when you click the ‘Parent’ page. I don’t want to show the ‘child’ pages on the sidebar at all. Is this possible?
