• I am looking to have a site done like JELLYNYC.com…I know they use a wordpress program yet im looking for a procedure that I can follow to get this site similar to that. Where do I start? I have an events company with no site so I want the site to be really cool. Do I just need a custom theme? not really formilia with the wordpress program. Do I download it and upload it on my host? Can I make the edits to the program or the theme with photoshop and Dreamweaver? Any help I can get would be great.

    Some things I Would like
-Photo gallery so I can uplaod pics of each night of our party’s
-Also would like to sell some T shirts
-events page, media, news, jobs, ect
-any ideas would also be a great help .

Thanks guys I really appriciate all the help and ideas I can get. If anybody has sombody that would like to recommend me to someone for specifics on the site as far as paying to get some work done it would be awsome as well. Thanks

  • You’re asking a lot of questions that could have really complicated answers. The basic setup of that site, after the splash page, is pretty simple in structure. But they’ve spent some time on getting the overall look and functionality. If you just want to get familiar with WordPress, you can get a free blog at http://www.wordpress.com. After you see how it works, then you can get your own domain and install WordPress there. WordPress.com also has a way to point to your URL if you already have a domain.

You have two basic choices –

    1. Hire a professional.
    2. Muck around with it yourself until you can get it sorta where you want it, then hire a professional.

I know 2 sounds worse, but you will be a better consumer of their services if you arm yourself with some knowledge first.

On finding help for hire – Try to find someone near you. Craigslist is a start. Google WordPress and your city. Okay you’re NYC, try a borough or something to narrow it down some. It just helps to be able to meet and/or pick up the phone.

If you already have a web host and domain name, I’d say just go ahead and follow the Install (“Famous 5 Minute Install”) WordPress procedure. Dive right in and give it a try. You’ll learn quickly what you can create.

I have this other wordpress site I paid to have done with a friend. It is on our domain name. We sort of got screwed over and the guy who did it did a crap job. The site is called worldsmostfamousblog.com…You can check it out at worldsmostfamousblog.com/wordpress/

We need some help. For some reason we cannot get pictures bigger on the main page. we want like 4 inch wide pictures. We also are not to happy with the layout or theme either. We would like a theme like this but are not sure how to do it or if it would work with our site.

Any opinions on fixing the images on the main page or helping us change the theme would be awsome…in the mean time I am going to try and upload that to my domain and see if I can fool around with it and make it work some how…What is a splash page anyway…lol im not to good with this but I am willing to learn and will help anybody once i get it
