I was trying to change the url of my site, I mean like completely change the url.( from http://www.sourceful.co.uk/ to http://thestatusof.com) I had already previously forwarded the old url to the new one but I decided to watch a youtube video on how to change it.

So I went to the settings tab in the wordpress admin site and changed both of the url sections to http://thestatusof.com and saved it. After I did that it gave me an error and I tried to refresh it and it logged me out. I have tried to log back in and it won't budge. I am not receiving any notice stating the user or password is wrong all it does is refresh and clear the contents out of the sections.

Someone said I would have to do this but I don't know how to.
    1. set the new domain up on the hosting
    2. make a backup of all files on the old domain (sourceful)
    3. Make a MySql dump of the sourceful website
    4. Once the new domain has been setup on hosting, upload the backup file to the new domain
    5. Go in to the MySql server and run a query.
    6. You will then need to edit the config.php file to match the new host details

I have also tried a number of the methodes on this one http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble and this one http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

Honestly I do not know what I am doing so I probably messed something up even more. Before this happened I somehow mess up the theme. So I need some serious help with this.

Follow one of the 4 methods given in http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

Well technically I already tried 2 out of the 4. I don't know if that was okay.

Use Method 2 (functions.php). It does work. I used it only a few hours ago to switch a client's site over to a new domain name.

I did not work. I am still locked out. I followed it like it says. I am not positive how to connect to filezilla but I used the file manger provided by my cpanel.

Can you still login via http://www.sourceful.co.uk/

Are you sure you are editing the correct functions.php file? It needs to be the functions.php file in the Cult theme folder.

    I cannot login

    Why? http://www.sourceful.co.uk/wp-admin works for me.

What do you mean it works for you? all it is doing for me is refreshing. How are you getting in?

Obviously, I cannot login. It's not my site. Try re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of your version of WordPress.

I mean I have no problem with you accessing it if you think you can fix it. Because I am pretty sure I screwed it up.

With the exception of your wp-content folder and wp-config.php file, yes.

It should be in wherever you installed WordPress originally.

I am not positive about that. I just bought this site yesterday from the previous owner.

and why don't you try to clone your site with xcloner.... and then simply add a htacces permanently redirect in the old domain?

because i didn't know about that, let alone know how to do it properly

try it if you can undo and enter again to your site, xcloner is "magic" when it works! you simply move all your site Hosting to hosting, no need to download and reupload and reconfigurate and and adn.... simply "copy paste" ;)
