I'm new to blogging and I have been reading and reading and reading... well, you get the point. I'm really trying to learn all this stuff. I've discovered it's like a foreign language! Anyway, I REALLY could use some help. Please.

I posted here a while ago, but I don't think anyone took notice... and as time goes by I'm fading deeper into oblivion. Soon, my request for help will be on the next page and no one will ever notice it! (It's under this Installation topic and the subject is "Sidebar displays my tabs, can't get rid of it...")

I also posted on the Plugins topic after reading the warning about posting on the wrong page, I dare not do that. But I definitely have some issues with making plugins work. It seemed so simple. Install... activate... work. Huh? They're not magically appearing where I need them!

Anyway, as you can probably tell, my eagerness to get my blog going is causing me to whine. Yes, please pass the cheese. And while we're munching,

    Could somebody please help me?

    Eternally grateful,
    Cookie154

Patience, grasshopper. This all volunteer support and 1 hour is not an inordinate time to wait.

Yeah, and our web design firm charges rush rates (a percentage of the total cost of the job) for quick turnarounds (under 48 hours). So, yeah, really ... :)

While I'm sitting here, I'll give you some pointers to get the most out of WordPress and this forum.

    1. As Chris already mentioned, this is an all-volunteer forum. You hang around here long enough, you'll find out who's "got the goods" and who's full of hot air. :) But respect all the volunteers here who are trying to help you, with nothing more in return than the warm fuzzies I hope they all get, and you'll benefit too, and soon, you'll be answering questions as you learn and flex your WP and CSS/HTML skills.

    2. Look in the Codex. Do not fear the Codex. Most of the time, it has sample code to help you understand how WP works and how to put together the puzzle pieces so WP does what you want it to do.

    3. Look at the Plugin Repository. Chances are good that if someone has thought of something they want WP to do, someone else has built a plugin that does just that.

    4. There are some great resources out there for newbies. Here are a few. Bookmark them and refer to them often:

And I'm saving the best for last, Lorelle, the High Priestess of WP:

    5. Google is your friend. :)

    6. And most of all, don't let your site become a chore. Have fun blogging!
