I have spent all morning going through the various plug ins to find the best way for folks to access a post category and child pages but have the rest of the site visible to everyone. I do not want just anyone to be able to register for the site. Looking at the forums of each, I come away concerned. hoping someone can help direct me to what I need. Redesigning and redeveloping a site for a school where there is an area (post category) with child categories for each teacher to post info about their classroom happenings, with the intent for parents only to be able to access all of these. Don't need separate login for each. Can anyone help me? With great hope, I say thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if your asking to hire someone, which is not allowed here. Just letting you know, you might not get the responses you want.

However it does sound like you need to either pay a little for support and advice at minimum. Is this being done on your own initiative? I do recommend a budget even if small, to avoid ending up just pure stuck. If your just getting started, even an easy to install solution like WordPress can be a learning curve when you want to setup a multi user blog/community site.

There are premium member area plugins, just Google to find them easily enough.

There is also a theme, never used it much but it may be suitable not sure. DirectoryPress that is.

You'll need to configure it all just right but even then you may struggle to get the design, layout etc you need. Lots of free themes out there however.

How old are your pupils? I know a great premium theme for younger people.

hi, this is an existing site that i am taking over. As is, anyone can sign up and access the area, even though they are not suppose to. I am not looking to set up a multi site, just wanting to have one area where "members" can log in to see that portion of it, i am not wanting this for a paid membership. I am not looking to pay, just wondering if someone can recommend a stable plug in to remedy this. There are a few out there, but when i look at this forum under plug ins and hacks, it appears that there are issues with all of them. Guess I am hoping someone can lead to me one that works... with minimum issues!

The premium plugins for membership sites will allow a free systems also.

And you don't want to use MU, I was actually about to mention it but also already guessed that it is a bulky solution for you.

When you read that a plugin does not work, it could be for any number of reasons and those reasons may not effect you. Normally we need to try every plugin, sometimes a couple of times until we decide on a solution.

I'm noting this down so I can research and maybe create a plugin but that won't be of use to yourself any time soon. I have a good idea on how to make such a site using a simple but highly effective approach. To my knowledge no one has used the approach I have in mind.

So, if you continue to struggle it may be worth checking in on me sometime in future. I'm a developer at WebTechGlobal.co.uk and we're currently planning to start creating a lot of WordPress plugins.

    Good luck finding something.

yes, one would think that there would be a simple solution to this. i think you should have a good market if you can develop a plug in for it. In the meantime I will trial and error and hope. thanks
