I did resolve it, but it's not the right way to resolve it. I just commented out the offending line in pluggable.php:
// $lp = parse_url($location);
this "unable to parse url" error only happened when I was reading a post on my blog that somebody posted and then logout while on the individual post page (single.php).
If any of you have a better solution, please let me know.
