I'm using wordpress as CMS for a niche portal site that will have the following sections: Home,News,Radio,Video,Music,Chat, and Forums

The 'News' page will actually be the blog.

Problem: The blog is index by defualt in wordpress. I need to put featured content, etc. on the homepage, not the blog. So I created a separate page template and added all the source code of the "index.php" but the posts did not show up. How can I move the blog to a separate page?

Log into your administrative interface and create an empty News page and a Home page with content. Then, go to Options | Reading. Under Front page displays, check A static page, then select Home under Front page and News under Posts page.
