Settings -> Discussions -> Default article settings
Also you can go to each post and disable comments. Easy way is select all the posts and bulk edit. Then change Comment Status to Do Not Allow.

I don’t want comments because they are usually spam. If someone has something to tell me they can email.
So I have comments not allowed in the settings, then I have no comments after 2 days just to make sure and I’m still getting spam comments. I got 20 this morning, so I must be on some new ‘bother this person’ list. I have to go to the admin, click every one and then do a bulk delete.
When I searched this topic everyone is suggesting installing various spam fixes. I don’t want to mess with that.
It doesn’t seem like it would be too hard to just eliminate the comment option but I can’t find anywhere that does it for sure.
Is there anything?
