I destroyed my site's URL and can't get back in! HELP! (20 posts)

Please help, asap! I'm panicking and no one's available to help me.

I was trying to set up Google AdSense. Part of that process involved 'verification.' I had to show that I was the owner of the site. I was asked to paste the following bit of URL google49e36b32f2dd4858.html into my URL.. I wasn't sure how to do this ... (yes, uh oh)

I went into the bowels of my SimpleX site (I don't know the version), and to the area marked 'General.'
That's where two boxes are presented that feature the URLs for the site. One is marked WordPress and the other is marked Blog.
I stuck this google code (above) onto the end of what appeared in the blog site box. I then checked w/ Adsense on the verification.

    My verification was rejected.

I then tacked that same google url onto the end of the site's URL that was in the identical looking WordPress box on that same 'General' page. Then, disaster ensued.

The site now is horrifying! The theme is gone, I cannot edit, I cannot go beyond a first page. It's really a disaster and I don't know what to do to fix it!

What do you require to help me???

This is the URL that got me into the site, before. Of course I'm not including the Username and Password at this point.

    http:/ / www. lexigramsofthemoment. com/ index/ wp-login. php? redirect_to= http%3A%2F%2Fwww. lexigramsofthemoment. com%2Findex%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost. Php

    Please help!!

    fix it back
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

also all you need to do for google is open notepad and save a blank page as google49e36b32f2dd4858.html
upload that to the root of your site and then submit to google

be sure the word google goes before all of the numbers. when I've done it it was numbers only

Thanks, but I don't understand your directions.

'Open notepad'? You mean, open a blank page on which to paste that URL bit?

'Upload' this to the root of my URL? You mean, add it to my url?

What do you mean, 'Submit to Google'?

I pasted this googleURL onto the end of my URL. I got the following:

    Not Found
The requested URL /google49e36b32f2dd4858.html was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.0.54 Server at http://www.lexigramsofthemoment.com Port 80

The video should help you get back into your blog...don't change those values in Settings/General again.

Then do what Samboll said for the google part.

The computer I'm on is not the 'host' originator of that site. That's all in my son's computer - and he's thousands of miles away in the backwoods w/ no Internet connection so I can't communicate this to him.

I think this means I have to download PhPAdmin to the computer I'm on, so that I can take the rest of those steps ... Right??

phpMyAdmin should be (may be) installed on your hosting account. Do you have Cpanel access to your hosting account?

I looked at my control panel but see nothing there that indicates I can access anything to do with WP or my site.

This may exist on my son's MAC ...he's the one who originally set up this website. He merely showed me the basics - how to post and edit! I decided to look into Google Ads, and thought I'd try that for the heck of it. Their directions seemed fairly easy - until this 'verification' disaster.
(After reading complaints posted about Adsense, maybe this is a blessing in disguise!) Anyway, I still need to make the site operational. I have some diehard fans ;)!

There are so many different PhPAdmins to choose from to download ... I don't want to choose the wrong one. This is where I am presently stuck.

See the following video for how to temporarily fix your site by adding a couple of lines to your wp-config.php file. That should get things back working until your son can help.

    Hi Figaro,

I went through this video and found most of it clear except for the File Transfer Protocol part.

I'm assuming that I would need to search: http://ftp.lexigramsofthemoment.com correct? Well, when I do that, I get a message that I'm not permitted or something like that.

So, I guess I need to upload Filezilla. I tried that, and am told that I have 'downloaded' it, but maybe I need to still open it - maybe it's in a zip file somewhere (I don't see it and can't find where it may have landed when I run a search). Anyway, I still can't access a config file via ftp .

Gosh I am sorry, but as you can imagine, anyone needs to get into their site! Now I'm just getting TIRED.

The video makes the FTP bit look like a snap! It's hardly discussed. I can't do it! Maybe I need yet another video to explain that, too! lol

    SIGH, Awaiting your kind feedback

    Hi Samboll,

I sent an email to you, and trust you received it.

I hope there's something you can do. I hate the site looking so terrible. I'd rather that it were 'under construction'!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Well,

    Thank you both, anyway.

Unless you've got yet another idea, I still can't enter the site, as my son is apparently on the road and utterly incommunicado.

    ;)

    Cheers,

    CC

    Hi Figaro, Hi Sam ...

Just to update and tell you my disaster is still a disaster ...

My son just seems to have torn down whatever I had, leaving me with a big blank!

I had 239 posts with pictures. I hadn't saved any of them! I'd only emailed them to myself via the 'send to' thing. So, Now I have nothing!

What can I do? Really?? These posts must still exist somewhere? Right?

Can one of you contact my son directly? I can't bear the thought of losing so much content. It was an amazing site and just getting started.

:( Really hope you can help.

My son's email is evancollisson@gmail.com ... You can tell him his mother sent you!

Can I get some follow up please?

My son has retrieved the pictures, but not any of the posts! Is there any help for him? How can we get back the text of 239 posts? This is SO SAD.

Right , I think I might know your problem.
First of all where did you put the google verification number in the url?
Blog Address or the other box?(In general)

    Hi Doocey ...

Sorry to get back to you so late ... I am actually surprised to see a response! Most grateful!

    UGH.

My son told me to track down everything one by one by going to Google search, then typing the following:
    site:lexigramsofthemoment.com Timothy Franz Geithner
That last bit is for an example - the site is loaded with info on various persons, entities, etc.

Well, take a look, this is what I get when I type in 'timothy' as a post

    http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:E57AjQCG1d8J:www.lexigramsofthemoment.com/index/%3Fm%3D200907+site:lexigramsofthemoment.com:+Timothy&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk

You get a real good idea of the amount of work it took to put the site up, including the pictures. It's a hell of a lot of work. I do not want to re-up everything one by one, but that is exactly what I've started doing, since my son sort of re-created the whole web-site. It's got the title Lexigramsofthemoment.com. But I'd RATHER have the OLD site! WHY can't I get the old site.

What I originally typed in the URL slot is posted above. It's better you just read through my first post - paragraph.

    This is CRAZY depressing.

I appreciate any help you may be able to proffer. Thanks so much!

    C.C.

I believe I pasted that google link in BOTH those boxes. First I put it into one of the boxes and got no reaction - nothing. Google needed to SEE that stupid google code. I couldn't see it, SO (disaster), I pasted it into the other (general?) box. I've been shut out ever since and nothing could help.

If there is anything my son can do from his computer, since HE gave birth to that site and might have requisite codes (php??) whatever, you could contact him at evan@skatearabia.com . I could give him a head's up that you'd be trying to contact him. Otherwise, just let me know if I can do anything.

I will check back at this site more frequently!

    --like every minute.

    :)
