Would love some help here. Attempting to follow these instructions (http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory) I moved the theme file to the root (I think - in the HTML folder) and copies the index.php and .htaccess files to the same location. When doing so, I replaced the index.php file that I had just moved as part of the theme folder and now nothing works.

This was in an effort to change the domain name from domain.com/wp-content/..... to just domain.com.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Yes. I took the one mentioned in the instructions and copied it into the folder containing the theme that I edited. When copying it in there, I received a notification to say that there was already an index.php file in there, but I replaced it with the other one. Not the smartest thing I've done, but it's no longer working.
